Consultation
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis, treatment, and anesthesia options. Occasionally, surgery can be done the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan may require a medical clearance and will require that the surgery be scheduled on another day.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Patient Registration forms (if printing from the website)
- Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
- A list of medications you are presently taking
- Your medical and/or dental insurance cards. If you do not have a card, please make sure that you bring your ID and group number, and a claims mailing address for your insurance company. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.
A pre-operative consultation is recommended for all of our patients, but is required for dental implants, children under the age of twelve, and patients with extensive medical history.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) It may be necessary to take specific precautions or to pre-medicate before the surgery.
X-Ray
If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
Our Tysons Corner office is equipped with the i-CAT Cone Beam 3-D Dental Imaging System. This state of the art CT scan provides high-definition, in office, three-dimensional digital imaging at a lower cost and radiation to the patient compared to a traditional CT scan.
This system allows us to scan views of the oral and maxillofacial structures and provides us with the most complete radiographic information possible. The i-CAT’s images provide 3-D views of critical anatomy for a more precise analysis of bone dimensions and density. The need for bone grafting, selection of implant size and ideal placement can be more accurately determined pre-operatively.
We are able to view impacted teeth in three dimensions and precisely assess their position within the jawbone relative to adjacent teeth and vital structures such as nerves and sinuses.
The i-CAT’s images also enable us to accurately assess jaw deformities and identify bone lesions. TMJ patients benefit greatly from the 3-D corrected tomograms of the temporomandibular joint.
